Frequently asked questions
1. What exactly is an EquiStencil?
EquiStencils are self-adhesive stencils used to make temporary quarter-marking designs on your horse. You can clip or paint the design on your horse or pony. You can use EquiStencils pretty much anywhere on your horse although clipping designs in the saddle area is not recommended.
2. Why should I buy an EquiStencil?
The beauty of an EquiStencil is that is the only stencil that will stick to your horses' coat leaving both hands free to clip or paint a design. EquiStencils are easily removed and will not harm your horse.
3. What size are EquiStencils?
The majority of the EquiStencils are 8" x 8" with the design being within that area. Designs are sized so that they are suitable for horses or ponies however if you need something a specific size, please contact us and we can work with you to get you exactly what you need.
4. Can you create custom designs?
Yes we can! We will work with you to create a design for your drill team, parade, quadrille, demonstration or for your individual use. Additional costs may apply depending on the complexity of the design. If it's something that we will add to our Design Gallery there will be no additonal charge. Contact us for further details.
5. Are the any precautions I should take while using an EquiStencil?
Yes, you should. Your horse or pony may not be used to being clipped on an area of his body other than legs and face so make sure you use some caution when clipping or painting on another part of his body. Approach this as you would when introducing your horse or pony to any other new experience. Remember that equine activities carry with them inherent risks, including but not limited to: the propensity of the animal to behave in ways that may result in injury, harm or death to persons on or around them and the unpredictability of the animal's reaction to such things as sounds, sudden movement and unfamiliar objects.
6. What kind of paint do you use?
We love the Chalk Ink Markers! They are non-toxic and food safe and will not harm your horse. They are safe for kids to use and don't worry if they get the chalk ink all over them - it washes right off skin and clothing! The colors are bright and vibrant and most colors show up on all horse colors.
7. How do you remove the paint?
Just rinse with water and it will come right out. Do keep in mind that on white and lighter colored horses, darker colors may not rinse out right away and may take a little while to fade. Remember, this is a temporary color application and may fade or wear off more quickly depending on your horses' level of activity (ie if your horse is sweating), if he's wearing a sheet or blanket or if he's romping around outside. Although we have found that a painted design stayed on during a gymkhana on a very hot day - it looked as good at the end of the day as it did at the start of the day.
8. How long will it take for my horse's coat to grow back after I clip a design?
That really depends on the time of year. Coats tend to grow faster in the fall so expect your clipped design to blend in a little quicker than in the summer and winter months when a horses' coat doesn't grow as quickly.
9. How much do you charge for shipping and handling?

Priority mail provides tracking information and 2-3 delivery from the shipping date. Priority Mail will also deliver on Saturdays and to PO boxes. Check out our Shipping page for more information.
